Our small firm recently hired a senior manager who is micromanaging his team (ie tracking when they arrive and leave) and yelling at clients on the phone. His emails to clients include numerous typos. Some sentences don’t even make sense. Should I speak up and talk to the partners?

That’s classy stuff and I’d say it depends. What’s your relationship with the partners and the firm? If it’s a good one I’d bring it up or if you plan to stay as
it will lead to potential problems down the road. If not get your CPA and GTFO

Most places have laws on anti-retaliation! Definitely report it.

So a SM comes in fresh and is communicating to clients without even cc'ing the partner that probably held the relationship previously? Sounds strange

like

This is a yikes for so many reasons. The good news is that bad client facing interactions probably mean clients will drop the firm and that will quickly impact the SM's reputation/job security. However, if the partner is so checked out that they've chosen to be out of the loop, let alone with a brand new SM, that is a culture problem in itself and a sign for you to move along unfortunately.

I am currently a medical biller and coder that just graduated. I am currently in an entry level position because I am still studying to get certified. I will have a year's work of exp in July and will sign a contract for another year because my boss is training me in more I don't know.

I'm wondering what the pay is for someone in my position without certification. I live with family and want to afford to move out but I am single and only make $18/hr. Is that standard or am I being underpaid?

Intl Tax folks, how long did it take before you were confident in your role? I've worked for the past 3 years in a practice that is heavily consulting based (inbound and outbound structuring) and I feel like I'm only just starting to understand the foundational concepts (where I can explain them clearly to clients) and offering a shred of value. Then I'll have calls where partners discuss complex tax, legal, treasury and other related concepts that all go over my head.. it becomes overwhelming

I interviewed for KPMG on 11/15 for a Senior role and the HR emailed me on 11/16 that everyone liked me but they think I should be hired as an Experienced Associate. I had a call with the HR on 11/17 wherein we discussed about my salary expectations and the HR said he will get back in a day. It’s been more than 10 days and multiple follow ups but still no response. I don’t think I was rude while talking to the HR, I just told my current salary and asked for min. that no. Did i miss the chance ?

Do you all see a compelling future in your tax career? I’ll go first, I don’t see a compelling future working for a large PA firm in the long run because you have to work more as you move up. However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.
