Thoughts on a Omega De Ville Prestige as a first luxury watch? Would be ~$7.5K USD at retail. Some friends have said great things about Omega as a starter, whereas others say it’s not worth it over a Rolex Oyster Perpetual (which would be similar in cost).
I personally love how clean the design is, the use of gold, and the thinner band as it links the watch … find the Rolex band design to be too chunky.

Price looks on the lower end imo. Use Chrono24 Escrow when buying.. get it checked once the watch is received. That way you’re protected.

I would be ecstatic to receive this watch as a gift, and I’ve purchased watches from Chrono24 in the past and have never had a problem, just do your background research on the dealer/seller it’s coming from. I’d say scams are uncommon on the site but it’s important to always buy the seller!

We love when people try to do something special for an enthusiast significant other and the preowned market can be difficult to navigate. One thing that is super important is to make sure you do some diligence on the seller. Chrono24 is a reputable marketplace but you may not always get the best price and still have risk that the actual seller is sketchy so make sure you look at who is listing the watch.

Does he know / like watches? I’d rec shopping with him. It’ll be just as special and he’ll get exactly what he wants. Otherwise a surprise seems risky for the money you’re spending

I think this is overall fair but before you pull the trigger, it might be worthwhile to search around with some independent dealers.
I have bought pieces from Long Beach Watch Club and there are others that can notify you if certain pieces come in or can connect you with others in their network that may have the watch.

I generally advocate for shopping together, but as a JLC fan and dress watch enthusiast - if I received this I would be absolutely over the moon and happy that my partner found a good deal and saved some money.
Bought this off chrono24 and it is excellent. Also, don't listen to people who say not to get someone a watch without letting them pick it. That totally takes away the specialness of giving the gift. It sounds like you have a pretty good understanding of what they like and chose the right piece. Go for it!
It‘s an elegant classic watch one can wear every day. Underapreciated often, great value for money. As someone who ownes a dozen watches, i would still love it. Even more as a gift i was not expecting from a loved one!
