I did not see a difference until the 1 year mark for my hair and my dry skin is started shifting about 6 months post. By my daughters 2nd birthday it felt like a thing of the past and everything was behaving for me as it was previous to pregnancy.
Think of it this way, it took 9 months to bake and brine the baby, can take that long for the body to rebalance. Everyone is different, and it also depends on breastfeeding, sleep, diet, etc.
One of my docs during pregnancy recommended not getting pregnant again for at least 18 months, and discussed it takes double the time for the body to rebalance for as long as a pregnancy takes. I’m not having a second kid, but it stuck with me as I struggled postpartum.
There are supplements and whatnot, but I can’t speak to those.
Give yourself some grace.
I needed to see this reminder. Thank you for sharing.
God the post pregnancy/breastfeeding botox hits so good. That’s my only advice.
5 months is right in the middle of hair shedding - you’re probably past the halfway mark. Are you breastfeeding? If so, that’s dehydrating so drink more water than you think you need to.
Breastfeeding is still affecting me a year on, it’s the hormones. It has given me a new moustache that wasn’t there during pregnancy, and an allergy to any skin product. The hair loss does stop though!
I’m 7 years PP from my youngest and look a lot younger now than 2.5 years after birth and breastfeeding. It slowly can return.

I stopped breastfeeding/pumping in March 2022 and I am FINALLY just about able to stop expressing any milk. I have noticed a big change in my energy and appetite in the past month or so as these hormones leave my body.
