If you can find one, do a putter fitting.
It’s one of those things when you look down at the putter head, you’ll know when you’re comfortable with its look and shape (blade, mallet, etc.).
Once you have that general understanding what shape of putter head you like, consider the feel when it touches the ball. Thats also a matter of personal preference. For example, odyssey putters may have a softer feel than others.!
Once you like the look and feel of the putter, I agree with the earlier post to get a fitting because the correct grip and length of putter make a huge difference!
For me, step 1 was to decide if I wanted a mallet or blade (I prefer the added weight of the mallet). Step 2, was to figure out grip.
For $300 you should have no issues finding a putter.
Highly recommend going to a used store and looking at used putters for a massive discount. Many return very gently used putters blaming the tool for their poor putting.

Putter fitting for sure.

If you're considering spending that much, then 100% go to a fitting. A putter is arguably the most important club in your bag. Once you find the right type of putter for you, then evaluate your options.
Fully agree, unless the cart girl is watching in which case I’ll take a piped drive all day.
ping has a thing you can put on your current putter then put your phone in the cradle with an app on - pretty accurate. the main things are your arc type and lie angle.
but that's a short cut to a real fitting.
Get yourself used Callaway Odyssey Eleven. It’s the most forgiving putter ever.
TA1 - trust me it's possible to miss the sweet spot on a putter
Cleveland Huntington Beach is great for like 150. 300 is a ton for a putter especially as a new golfer
Kirkland Signature basically makes a $100 knock off of a Scotty Cameron. Plus it’s funny to pull out.
Kirkland Signature being COSTCO!!!! Good vodka brand too
Having just done a putter fitting, I agree that the fitting is worth it. The putter I walked out with is so much more comfortable than the one I had.
Wow that sounds great. I need to look for one in my area
