Naples / Marco island. Great place for families and none of the craziness of Miami.
OP - not much great snorkeling. For that I recommend Miami/keys.
EY1- all of Florida gets crowded by northerners that time of the year. Although, it seems like the Canadians may not be coming this year. To be seen though.
Fort Lauderdale, Biscayne Bay, Key West (if they opened), Tampa.
Hit Key West during Fantasy Fest and you'll have all those awkward discussion with your kids done in no time... "Daddy... Why are those people....?? "
Marco Island is good. Destin and what is now being called 30a is good for families depending on time of year and then there are some nice laid back beaches between north of West Palm to south of Melbourne if you want to be off the beaten path a bit and just go to the beach. Clearwater is also very nice on the Gulf side.
If you really want to snorkel, the keys are the best option and you can look in Key Largo, Islamorada (pronounced Isle Morada) or Marathon. Some nice laid back resorts in those places or do a vacation rental, all in the upper keys.
Even Key West is okay with kids but I wouldn't go during Fantasy Fest and maybe steer clear of the nude beach and some of the nightlife. You could do a day trip there from the upper keys too. Make sure to eat at Pepe's if you do.
West Palm Beach fish here. I’d say anywhere in Palm Beach County will fit your bill. Less crowded beaches, access to restaurants, groceries, etc., close to airports (PBI or FLL)
Key Largo fits that bill and was in good shape when we visited a month ago. Lots of outdoor dining and plenty to do outside like snorkeling and fishing.
