Question for IPGH people: I was offered a role at FCB Health and then I was told since I don't live in NY, I would have to pay the first $3K out of my own pocket for company travel and I would also have to pay NY taxes for any days I worked in NY. Is this for real? Did you negotiate this in your offer? I'm pissed because I was told only after the HR person confirmed the amount I was looking for.

If it’s a big deal, say you didn’t know that and ask them to increase the salary by $3k. They won’t want to start over finding someone for that small amount and can prob increase it by that without going back to finance. You may end up making more money if you don’t go in often.

For the NYC taxes, that has nothing to do with your company, and they don't dictate the IRS standards.

Chances are you can get away with it no problem if you want.

I did! I’ve heard great things about working there and their retention seems to be outstanding (at least in strategy, not sure about others) everyone I interviewed with had been there at least 7 years and most were 10+ which is nearly unheard of in this industry. I asked all of them what kept them there and it seems like there is a lot of genuine growth opportunity, culture and support which were some of my draws. Also, in regards to the cost of travel to the office, I have been working remotely since 2017 and no company has ever covered any amount of my travel that’s not billed back to clients so it’s nice that it’s an option if significant, costly travel is required. IMO as long as you’re not traveling to the office frequently you’re unlikely to hit that $3k mark. I think this year I’ve spent less than $100 on travel to my current NYC office (obviously depends on your location). If it’s a real concern for you I’d talk to them about how frequently you are expected to be in office. There were a few teams looking for someone in my role and I told them I didn’t want to frequently travel so they set me up with a team that doesn’t require much in-office time. Not sure if that’s an option for you (I asked about it with the recruiter before interviews with the team started) but could be worth talking to them about.

Yea the hybrid policy is weird, but the $3k thing is ONLY for literally going to the office if you ever need to go to the office to help “offset” what in office people spend or whatever.

Any client travel is not considering part of that so you won’t ever be spending out of pocket for client travel.

Also NY taxes are so confusing for remote/hybrid they just do blanket stuff to cover themselves.

Standard, not negotiable

I had this experience recently but they told me in the initial phone call. I would be livid if I went through interviews and received an offer but then found out that way.

IMO experience that is something I ask about in my first conversation with the recruiter so I know in advance. In that first conversation I’ll know if it’s a role I’d be remote for, etc so I make sure to get those questions in the initial conversation. And taxes are always location based, regardless if you’re working 5 hours or 40 hours a week in NY it must be documented — not a company policy but tax regulation so definitely can’t be negotiated.

Wow! On my timesheets at Publicis I have to put each hour where I worked (there is a setting where I can say apply to full week or full day so it’s not as tedious as it sounds) so I can say I worked 4 hours in NYC in a week, month, etc

The $3K thing is really throwing me for a loop, I must admit.

I also just got an offer from FCB Health and when I asked the recruiter in my first interview they said it was estimated based on the amount people spend commuting into the office yearly if they live within the NYC area. It’s essentially the same as if you had to commute into the office via the LIRR/ Metronorth and spent $250 a month on a combination of parking and train fares. It also sounded like a lot to me but when broken down like that it made more sense. As others mentioned though this is only for going to the office, if you’re going to a client/ something client expense-able they cover that always (since it’s billed to the client)

They can’t change the tax thing but I would negotiate the 3k thing away. Saying it effectively lowers their offer so it wasn’t honest that that was their offer. So they can come up groised up 3k (like 5k) or take away the 3k “deductible”

Considering leaving my agency after just a couple months in pharma - feeling underutilized and stuck.

My question: do I leave this stint off my resume entirely? List the parent agency instead of the wellness arm? Pass it off as freelance? Not trying to be dishonest I just know this experience probably isn’t relevant when going out for non-pharma jobs.

I’ve been having a super hard time concepting lately, especially knowing that the “concept” will mostly serve as a sticker to slap on the cover of a CVA and the top of a website. I feel like every pharma concept I’ve ever seen or created becomes so cheesy once it appears in tactics. Does anyone have any examples of HCP creative (non-DSA) that is both impactful and translates well into pharma tactics?

I'm SVP/strategy for a PR agency. I moved into PR, Healthcare, and Strategic Planning only 3 years ago. An agency recruiter is trying to convince me to move into a GSVP account role, assuring me "at that level it's all strategy." (I dont think she understands the words she's using. Or that I'm qualified). But long-term, knowing account roles are so much more plentiful than brand planning in PR, I'm wondering if I should start thinking about account. Anyone here moved from strategy to account?
