So I can get out of this project?

I quit my previous job approximately 5-6 months ago due to toxic culture and being pressured to commit fraud… I fear hiring managers see that I’ve been out of work for this time and may assume I was fired or laid off. Additionally I’ve had a couple interviews where company “X” interviewers have commented on this and in an effort to not bad mouth my previous employer I’m stuck with a generic answer like I want to take my career to the next level with Company “X.” Any thoughts/advice?

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? How do you feel about you are not progressing anymore and seeing other people progressing in their career? I have no intention to make partner, but still feel a bit stuck not doing that much.

Hello All, I’m a project manager but seeking to pivot into UX Research. I do have some experience but don’t have a portfolio yet. Can anyone advise if I should focus on going through a bootcamp or focus on getting a Masters in HCI? Or just building a portfolio with the experience I do have? Need help on how to invest. We are positioned to pay off our house later this year. Expect to work for another ~20 years. 401k fully funded and have some company stock investments maturing over the next few years, but no investments outside of that. Kids have a prepaid college plan for certain schools. Emergency fund is solid. Where should I look to start investing? I have fidelity for my 401k, would they be good to open a taxable investment account with, or are there better options?
