Recommendations on how to spend my home tech allowance? Already have my dream monitor and other typical home office stuff (printer, etc.). Anyone have a duex max (or similar) portable monitor? Any out of the box suggestions?

Expensive mechanical keyboard, external microphone, extra lighting, headphones or speakers, iPad/tablet, etc

Really depends on your Firm’s policy and what type of receipts do they need (e.g. actual receipt versus a charge from Best Buy on your statement)

Buy any qualifying tech on Amazon that uses up the allowance, submit receipt for reimbursement, return items to Amazon

Buy a really good chair if you don’t already have one.

Thanks! Bought the same Herman miller chair that I have at my office years ago

My home office is NY but I live in NJ and I’m filing taxes in multiple states that I worked in this year. Just landed a full time gig, looking to get some furniture so I’m not working on my parents’ kitchen table during this remote period. Any recommendations for desks and chairs? I’m hoping to find something that’s easy to assemble and break down for when I need to move, and something that won’t cost an arm and a leg.

I know everyone has a different kind of setup that works for them. I currently have a laptop, drawing pad, second monitor, and a desk riser.

Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!

A nice comfortable office chair.

https://ergochair.co/collections/chairs/products/ergonomics-mesh-chair-w-adjustable-headrest-and-armrest?variant=32511617597491

My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest

I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.

AMA.

Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work. Depending on how many people are there and how it feels, I was planning to stay an hour extra but should I hang around the office until later? First time visiting this city so it’d be great to take in some sights too (although that’s not a priority of course).

This job is a lot better if you don't care about the bonus and hours requirement. I can pretty easily bill 1700 hours annually and my firm so far hasn't cared in the slightest. Worrying about hitting 2000 hours for the bonus used stress me out so much, and I just don't think it's worth it. Base salaries are ridiculous and way more than enough to finance my lifestyle.

And you don't need to be uber wealthy to regain control of your time.
