Recruiter submitted my blind profile to a firm a few months ago (two-three months ago). It’s unclear whether the firm looked at my materials or if they just passed on the blind profile. They recently posted a job to their website, and I self applied and got an interview there. Assuming they looked at my materials and passed, will there be any issues with the recruiter here? I don’t want them to sabotage my chances at the job.

If the firm looked at your materials from the recruiter AND your recruiter followed the proper channels, the recruiter should have an agreement that they get to represent you (aka that the firm has to go through them for the conversation & compensate them).

If they didn't submit your materials, the recruiter might be annoyed but they would be incredibly short sighted to say anything to either you or the firm, as anything that would sour things for you would sour the recruiters relationship with you and the firm (some recruiters are short sighted...) If I were the recruiter, I would likely just let you know that it opened and if you replied "I had a friend who submitted me" I would just say "That's great to hear! Hope that you get it. I'd still be happy to prep or talk with you about it if you'd like" The relationships are way more important than the individual placement, IMO.

If you are a good candidate and the recruiter is smart, they may have been following up all along to catch the firm when they had a need. But they should have updated you and said "Hey, the firm now has a need. I just talked to them. Do you still want to submit?"

The only real way that things can get awkward is if the internal recruiter at the firm didn't realize that they had your materials from an agency recruiter. But that is not your problem at all. It just means the internal and agency recruiter will have to discuss it and someone may ask you if you have an agency recruiter permission to submit you & when.

Long story short, none of this should impact you & any good recruiter should make it look like nothing happened. All good agency recruiters know that their job is to make everyone's life easier.

OP - just move forward as normal. If the firm picked you for an interview, it's because they want to interview you. If the recruiter messed up, that's on them. If the firm messed up with the recruiter (doubtful), the recruiter can reach out to the firm directly. It has nothing to do with you. Many recruiters are notoriously bad at their jobs. And a lot of them do not follow up. If they had submitted your materials and nothing happened, they should have at least followed up with you to let you know whether or not they heard back. But a lot of them just ghost nowadays. You don't know them anything. Good luck with the interview.

Did you give the recruiter written authorization to submit your materials? A blind profile is just that, blind. It shouldn't contain any identifying information. My guess is that the recruiter did not submit you, and that you are ok to go ahead.

However, if you liked the recruiter otherwise, you might consider applying through them. In my experience, using a recruiter helps the process. I've seen that as a lateral candidate when I worked in Big Law, and now as a recruiter. Good luck!

I was just informed after the third round of interviews they’d like at least 5 references, two must be supervisors. My last job was a temporary remote job where I didn’t really interact with my supervisor and the jobs before that were at my family’s business (I do not speak to any of them for serious personal reasons.) Anything before that was grad school and I haven’t kept in contact with any professors from over five years ago. What should I do? 😕

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. That was 1.5 years ago and I am still in the limbo of juggling my own workload + doing assistant roles for my supervisors. I have also had no increase in pay, which is a huge deal for me. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?
