Meetings that “had” to take place outside of core hours before you had a kid will likely still have the same “need”. You can be firm with your boundaries - and many parents are - but you have to recognize that this may be a trade off with opportunity. Ex. - If the proposal meeting is at 7 every night, they might not move the meeting. You just won’t participate in the proposal.
Set you boundaries and stick to them. There will always be exceptions, but don't let that go back to becoming the norm.
You'll know what is best for you and your wife as far as splitting duties. Some days you may need to take off, other days she might. Then there are some days you sit on a conference call with a baby in your arms and lap asleep or feeding.
You'll find that most people are quite accommodating as long as you are honest about it and do not abuse it.
Three years ago my laptop went down and I had to go into the office to get it fixed. I am normally wfh even pre covid. Wife was working in her office so I went in, 4 month baby in tow, and sat at a desk for four hours with a loaner laptop to get work done while they fixed mine. The baby was fine and no one else had any problems with it. If they did, oh well. That's on them.
Honestly, just deny meetings before 9 and don’t answer emails after 5pm. You’re the manager just…just do it
A better question is why is your team sending you meetings before 9 and after 5 anyway? Is this an environment your encouraged or participated in before your baby?
