Saw a PwC M&A Tax opening and not sure whether I should make the jump. How are the people, culture, and stress level? Any regrets or things you wish you knew before joining?

You will occasionally encounter …..

Do it! You learn a lot about tax in M&A and the knowledge learned is transferable to other areas of tax/finance. If you’re not already at PwC, it is my understanding that they are up there for paying well from what I’ve learned from colleagues. The M&A team is also very structured so you will know what your role is and what is expected of you everyday regardless of what office you are aligned to. That said, my opinion having worked at big 4 and now middle market, the team you work with unfortunately has a huge impact on how good or bad your experience is. But ultimately, I don’t think you can go wrong jumping to M&A from a knowledge perspective. Just be ready for the hours, everything will likely feel like a fire drill and you will have a dozen going at once.

Which market was it for? I work in m&a tax at PwC

Ah that’s not my market but happy to chat about my experience if you’d like. Also happy to provide a referral if you need or get you connected to people in the DC office.

Let’s talk about wrongful termination. The other day I was fired in the middle of the day without any warning. My colleagues called me because they were confused on why the Talent Manager dismissed me from the chat. I didn’t know what they were referring to. So I called my PM to ask what was happening, and she said that she just got off the phone with the TM and said they were terminating my contract on the spot due to me speaking up about micromanaging. No explanation just kicked out. Advice?
