Is this NYC? How can you live in NYC in a $90k budget without being miserable? I highly encourage you to create a budget and see whether you could swing it. Even if you could swing it, is it worth it? These cities tax you to death. Don’t focus on onetime payments like sign-on bonuses and unvested equity too much. Always try to get them to increase base pay, which is recurrent and you can relay on every pay check
BTW, I’m a Huron manger too. I know what you are getting paid as an analyst at Huron. Also, Huron doesn’t adjust salary for the living location due to our non-office staffing model. Why not take your Huron salary and go live in a cheaper city like Chicago? If you are trying to get a non-healthcare job at a different firm, then it make sense but NYC does not make sense for $90k. I hope this helps.
That’s a great point, I was initially planning on being based out of Chicago but was recommended to go to NYC due to the firm not having an office in CHI. I really appreciate you taking the time for this, thanks a lot! :)
It is NYC and appreciate the input! I’m hearing the same theme from many of the people I’m speaking with. They recommend not taking it unless I can get base pay to at least 110K
BTW, never take a job without putting a location based budget together Don’t forget the tax liability
Duly noted, I have already begun building a model to calculate what I would need to not take a pay cut. Figured the exit ops would justify the lateral pay move due to the clients solely being PE/alternative investment funds.
@M1 - definitely feel you’re overblowing being able to live in NYC on $90k. Depending on the lifestyle you’re looking for, it’s definitely achievable. @OP - would recommend posting in the NYC bowl to get a more measured perspective.
