Second year associate here, and my teams are annoyed I’m too busy to do more work. I’ve been annualizing 2400+ for the last 8 months. Is the only option to just accept the fact they’re annoyed?

Tho happened to me. I had to lateral.

Agree you should consider lateraling. In the meantime, are there any seniors or partners that you’re comfortable talking to? They may be able to help you manage your current workload and your teams’ expectations.

Hey Cyber friends! I’m a life long professional creative looking to get out. I’m fascinated by Cybersec/Infosec and have been learning a small amount. Tryhackme + YouTube + beginning to learn some python. However, I’m well aware that these baby steps don’t compare to the real job.

My questions: do you like what you do? Would you recommend the field or your discipline to a friend? What is the best and worst part of your job? Grateful for any and all responses. Thanks for letting me lurk! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I have mostly passive investments. I was thinking the other day: what if everyone had only passive investments? Wouldn’t this create incredibly high amount of systemic risk? Are we all sheep??

I would like to hit fire between 40-50. Currently 27, 185k total comp (125 for me and 60 for partner). Like my job don’t hate it don’t love it. Does an MBA make sense? I’m guessing it could take me to 170ish with that schools I’m looking at but wondering if the 40-50 retirement range makes an mba not make sense since I’d only have 10-20 years to save vs 12-22.

Would have to finance the whole thing myself. Current net worth is 140k. Thoughts?

I lateraled into a niche practice group in Sept 2021. I also have a 1 year old and have been mostly remote since I started - but have been keeping busy tracking towards 2400-2500 hours. That said getting to know people only remote has been kind of awkward at times (email only can be tough to decipher) although as a working mom the pros vastly outweigh the cons. Yesterday my main partner asked me to come in Thursday bc he will be there and set a time to meet. Is this good/bad?? kind of nervous!

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. However, I don’t want to feel like I wasted 2 years clerking (which I don’t feel like that, but I have to convince an employer of that too). Any help or insight?

Why do many associates at top tier firms stay to make Partner when they can go in-house in tech and make around the same, even long term? For example, you can make near 400-550k in-house at Google, Netflix, FB with 8-10 years of exp. More senior than that in-house, it can easily break $1M.
