Rising 2nd year here: been rethinking my choice as an M&A attorney. I've had a rough go of it over the first year-and-a-half of practice and am thinking about moving to a different practice area. Has anyone transitioned from being client facing to fully remote software sales? If so, what were the major differences in day to day? I'm currently on site with customers 3 days a week focused around hardware sales but have an interesting opportunity for fully remote software at a higher pay.

I’m so miserable every day is painful. I want to go tell pre-law school me it’s not worth the debt because you will hate this career and then feel trapped by the debt. And then I want to come back to present day, quit this life-leeching, soul-sucking job and start over doing something else entirely. Too much? Oh well. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

What exit opportunities exist for international arbitration? I don’t want to litigate, and am a non-American so government jobs (which seem to be what my colleagues are exiting into) aren’t an option for me. I don’t ever see myself making partner (nor do I want to), and I feel totally stuck.

I have been a practicing (patent prosecution) lawyer in different firms for about 20 years. I would love to do something more creative but still techie (computers, telecom, apps, etc.). I've always been interested in improving the software that practicing lawyers use (whether patent-specific or not). I am also kind of an academic at heart, but I live in a locale where professorial jobs are pretty limited and we're rooted here now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have been overworked and overwhelmed at my current job for quite a while. This is my first position out of law school, small firm with large caseload, and in my second year of practice. I often think I should look for another opportunity elsewhere but I don't know that any other firms would give me the potential for growth and experience that I am getting here.
