So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?
I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

I’ll take the opposite of that. If you already have a job and your bosses and coworkers don’t know you’re looking then it’s a pretty boss move.
Now everyone vote with the like button which answer is better
I’ve thought about doing this this year, and I may still very well do it. My boss is connected to me on LinkedIn and is pretty active on it.
Depends upon your situation. I wouldn’t personally put that up unless I was already out of job. It’s not as if recruiters give you extra attention for that, and it’s an unnecessary announcement to your current colleagues.
Op, you should be doing everything you can to get a new job if you want a new job. One thing you shouldn’t be doing is thinking about what others may think of you.
The short answer is that it depends. If you’re a grad student or recently laid off, then it’s a great signal to the marketplace that you’re actively looking. No shame in that at all.
As for an employed person putting that up, that’s debatable and something I probably wouldn’t do. However, I’m pretty sure you have the option of having it be visible to everyone or only recruiters so check out the options.
I would 100% advise that you put it on. Don’t be insecure or shameful about it. Embrace it. Normalize it! Trust me, you never know someone may stumble on your profile and hit you up for a job because you’re explicitly inviting people to reach out to you for opportunities. Use technology to your advantage.
You can have the open to work tag on private, so when recruiters on LinkedIn do a recruiter search, you'll fall under that filter without having the full on badge
From a recruiter perspective, no difference. You will come up if they apply that filter.
Having the badge visible, if someone in your network happens to stumble across your profile they instantly know are looking and may reach out. Though I suspect you would have already exhausted your closer network as part of you search.
Do update your descriptions in the WE section plus overall profile as that is quite important.
There’s a filter on LinkedIn recruiter that lets recruiters sort people by “open to opportunities” when we are looking for candidates and they will likely sort by that field first
I’ve honestly heard arguments for both sides. I say try it with and without and see what gets you more traction.
Pro
I was out of work last summer and didn’t use it. I thought it was tacky and hid my face. It also don’t trigger anything for people when they’re searching for candidates.
Change the indicator to say that you’re looking for work, add the roles you’re interested in, then get active. You need to post things, interact with posts etc to draw people to your profile outside of just applying to jobs. Also start networking, LinkedIn is great in that regard but there are other virtual networking sites like Lunchclub.ai (happy to refer).
Best of luck in your search!
100% put it up. I have it on and I actually like my job
