Sure, but don't expect to get one.
At my shop, policy is you're not eligible until you've hit the 18 mos mark. Only gets broken for true superstars, and that always comes with a promotion. However, I always appreciate juniors asking IF: 1) they don't whine or or let performance plummet when told "not yet" , 2) they PROACTIVELY develop a plan to earn a raise, 3) deliver on that plan, 4) follow up on their delivery against the plan in 6-8 mos in a manner that's not entitled. Do those things and I'll do everything I can to get you more money.
You should never expect a raise simply based on time. If your agency does annual reviews - prepare to inquire at that time (assuming you have positive marks) Also prepare to discuss your measurable accomplishments. If the answer is no - it's ok to ask your manager for an understanding of your agencies increase procedure. They may help you set goals that could lead to salary increase. Also check out Glassdoor to know if your salary is on par with the industry and your agency.
You definitely should. You SHOULD at the very least get a cost of living raise because lord knows juniors get paid barely subsistence wages. If the agency says no, regardless of your performance, leave. I don't care how good or bad you are at your job, it's nearly impossible to live on junior salaries, especially if you have student loans, and no one deserves to live like that.
Eff that. When I was a junior I knew more than anyone I was there to learn, but I was also doing a shit ton of work as not being paid for it. If you're doing the same work as everyone else in your company, you should get a raise so you can eat more than break crumbs in the conference room.
You should always make your intentions known, but your beginning years are about getting as much experience as you can. If you're not getting that experience, change roles and you may get some extra $$ in the process.
I started at 40, went to 55 at the one year mark (w/ promotion) and now make 75 after I asked for a boost 6 months later. And the agency is struggling financially. If you add a lot of value, pay days do come even for junior people.
That's a really cute question. It took me more than 2 years to receive a penny more. 👍🏼
