Get a large dog, install security cameras as a deterrence, you can also partner with a security alarm company who also typically install cameras, immediately change out all the exterior locks on house after you purchase, if there is a garage door you can reprogram the keypad and remote clicker, get smart bulbs so that you can program Alexa to turn on/off exterior lights automatically, remove the little screws on the front door handle strike plate and replace with longer 2”-3” screws.
Wow thats scary..😨
Two things I (F) did when I lived alone in my house for 6 years… got a legit security system installed and used it every day. The second thing was bought a pewpew and learned how to use it. The second was something I thought about for a while but moved quick on when there was a domestic issue in my (great) neighborhood and the armed ex was on the run in the neighborhood. We literally had SWAT on our street looking for him and he did come down our street. It took them about 7 hours to apprehend him. Longest 7 hours of my life. Because I didn’t have anything to protect me, I stayed at my neighbors house (who did) that night. I immediately signed up for classes and bought one. Found out that I loved target practicing. Found it rather fun. My only regret is I didn’t learn how to truly protect myself sooner.
You get used to it. I have a few ring cameras and doorbells around the exterior of the home

I was a single female homeowner for six years. I replaced the locks on my house when I moved in, but that was it. I had a stalker situation at the apartment I lived in before moving into my house, so the house felt much safer. I was friendly with the neighbors which helped make me feel safe if something happened. Depending on the area of each, I think a house can be safer than an apartment just generally.
I have only ever lived in apartments where you are surrounded by neighbors, security guards etc.
Try a Townhome. Kinda like an apartment with connecting neighbors
I am M and I have lived in several places. I would get a camera if you need to and ensure the doors have sensors. If you are going to be living in a home with a yard, maybe a dog. Also, some of the other comments suggest a gated area and I agree if it is in your budget.
You can buy a condo in a security run or gated HOA. Or a property where you want to be and get a video doorbell and cameras around the house. Smart appliances and connected home is really great when you’re S/F. Many options you can consider.
