It's all messed up these days, but if what I'm gearing is that you recently graduated from ad school and have prev exp to that, the easy fix is to get rid of that exp in your CV and LinkedIn and apply again.
Oh I think I might’ve misunderstood. You were pitching me deleting my previous experience, right?
I did the same, went to ad school after 10 years experience. Just be honest about your story and your expectations. What agencies don’t want is to hire you as a junior and then have you be unhappy because that’s too basic or too low pay. If you’re honest and open from the beginning shouldn’t be a problem.
OP -- do not debase yourself for any agency or work for free. Even the big names are hollow shells of what they used to be. If you have experience, bill yourself as such.
Thanks for your response. If you’re ever open to chatting more, I’d appreciate it! Have a good holiday weekend!
What is the issue you’re having? Are you applying as a junior and getting told you are overqualified?
Hmmm. If you want to DM me your book I can look at it and give you any feedback.
Otherwise, just know that everything is fucked right now.
Also, I did portfolio school because my in-house work wasn’t really showing my full potential…and now I just feel like the spec work is confusing interviewers. Like, “if they have all this experience, why are they doing spec?”
Thank you for this! I have gotten good feedback on my book, which is why I remain confused. But I will try to look at everything holistically once more.
