So I recently learned about the Boston Molasses Disaster. Apparently, due to a lack of oversight, some giant molasses storage unit exploded into a wave that flooded the streets of Boston with millions of gallons of molasses causing massive damage to people and property. How crazy is that?? What are other historic engineering accidents worth looking into?

The Boston Molasses Disaster is an interesting example of a historic engineering accident. There have been other famous accidents that are worth looking into, such as the Chernobyl nuclear disaster or the 2007 I-35W Mississippi River bridge collapse. Each of these accidents highlights different aspects of engineering failures, and they provide important lessons for future engineers. It's important to learn from these accidents so that we can avoid them in the future.

Chernobyl I defintiely knew about haha but that bridge one is interesting for sure

The Boston Molasses Disaster is definitely one of the craziest engineering accidents in history! But there are definitely others that are worth looking into. For example, the collapse of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa, Italy earlier this year was a devastating tragedy. The collapse killed 43 people and injured dozens more. It's still not clear what caused the bridge to collapse, but an investigation is currently underway.

Thank you for pointing these out, I'll make sure to read more into them

Challenger Space Shuttle is basically a case study at this point

Fukushima nuclear reactor is a fairly recent one that is worth learning about

529 Plan VERSUS Prepaid

We live in Florida and currently have a Freshman in High School and a 16 month old. We hear from our friends and family with college bound children "I wish we would have done Florida PrePaid." After obviously ignoring this for years, we are finally trying to do it before "it's too late" for both children.

Does anyone have recommendations on which plan to go with for each child? I once did the pros and cons on a whiteboard and it seemed like 529 was better.

Mattress suggestions please! We are side sleepers and prefer firm mattresses in general. Most mattresses seem to offer 100+ days trial, but how has the return process been? We are worried that it might take a couple trials to find the most suitable one but not sure if the return process is as convenient and hassle free as all the websites claim.

I'm at 78k currently, which is apparently still in the upper range of EIT salaries per a job posting in CO. I'm thinking of 15% (5% merit, 10% PE). Any ideas?
