I’ve been in this situation before and I’ve just played along and would recommend doing so unless it’s overly burdensome. I honestly had a pretty decent experience working with the partner and it was work I otherwise would have never sniffed. I know it feels a bit like betrayal to yourself but I think trying to preserve/forge any positive connections is still worthwhile even on your way out.
yeah that’s what my gut tells me despite rather wanting to just breathe for a sec
It’s okay to say no. If you’re over it and burnt out, it’s usually best to take a break.
If you are up for it, I would say yes if you want to build the relationship with the person who’s requesting help. It’s a small world and you never know when paths may cross. But up to you.
This is a bootlicking perspective. Is this person giving you an assignment someone you want to use as a reference? If not, don’t worry about their opinion of you affecting your career. They’re just one of a hundred partners at a firm that’s firing you, and this person will likely never have the occasion to discuss you with anyone, if they even remember who you are. Focus on things other than tasks at this job
Just say it would be better to have someone else take this one as you’re about to be out of office for a while and offer to help staff it
Is it well known that you’re supposed to continue working (in a limited capacity)?
nope
