hahahah! I used to love writing essays when I was still a student. I don't know why kids dread it so much.

Yes!!

I always say "this isn't the first time or the last time" when they groan at me. They act shocked and hurt every time like...you all managed to do it before you can do it again, lol.

like

Its so true. They seem to forget we have to read and grade them as well. Its not like we are torturing them LOL.

hahahahah! they dread writing so much. i don't know why, it's always part of the curriculum why not make the most out of it. essays are the most creative a student can get apart from doing art

like

LOL I won't be surprised if I ask them and they give me the same answer! I try to make up topics that are fun and engaging but I can't spare them the task, it'll help them in the long run.

I don't understand how entitled this generation of students are. People in other countries would give anything to write an essay

Ugh yes! I always see their happy faces turn into a frown. I don't know what is so bad about essay writing. I enjoy it the most back then when I was a student. It's fun to express my thoughts and widen my vocabulary.

How do you engage your students in more reading outside of what is required in the classroom? With each passing year I am finding an ever shrinking population of students, including honors students, who actually read beyond what is posted in social media or video games. Students willingly volunteer that they do not read and most parents see it as a non-issue. I tell my students that the best readers are usually the best writers. What are some strategies that you use beyond reading logs ?

I have high school children of my own, but disciplining high schoolers has always intimidated me for some reason. I have excellent classroom management, but I feel like high schoolers are a little smarter ab getting around rules and less worried about consequences.

I’m told by an hs tchr that the grading load is ab the same.
