I don't really care. Supposedly the title goes to the top newsmaker of the year or to the person who had the biggest influence on society. That's why Taylor Swift was named Person of the Year in 2023. It doesn't mean the honoree is a good person. Adolph Hitler was Time's "Man of the Year" in 1938, even though the magazine said he was "the greatest threatening force that the democratic, freedom-loving world faces today." I have to admit I haven't read what Time said about Trump, but if they just reran that sentence it would be accurate.
Hitler, Stalin, Nixon, and Wallis Simpson have also been named. It’s not necessarily an endorsement, but a statement of influential people.
I think it tracks. Although he probably doesn’t see this for what it is.
Indifferent, but I guess not completely because I was just looking up how they decide the person of the year. The gist is somebody that is a strong influence, prominent, or representative of the year, etc and the like. Would also say whichever way you lean, that is an accurate statement. Also his presidency will only be the second ever to have a non consecutive second term.
It's given to the person who had the most impact on the news. So it's not an honor in the ordinary sense, despite whatever Trump may say about it. Like a lot of things in magazine, it was a marketing stunt. Decades ago they came up with the idea to put someone on the magazine cover during a time of year when newsstand sales were slow. Years later, Time-Life did a similar thing with their sports title, and that gave us the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
I support president Trump, but he makes the Swimsuit Issue I'm not buying. :)
