Okay...and? There are people that will be working that day. Sounds like you should be thankful that you have the holiday to spend with family and friends.

And we should push back because we are not brain surgeons. Business will go on as usual on Monday, with or without us. Our mental health is important.

Change jobs.

Use PTO.

Make an arrangement with your leader to WFH that Friday.

Call in sick.

Ultimately, you have options…

Use your PTO or call in sick..or logoff early,it’s gonna be an empty house anyway

I'd prefer to rent out my home to someone with no pets but it's looking like that's impossible, most people have at least one that are applying. If I need to give into this, what should I expect - it is terrible, do they ruin the home? If the person is generally responsible and keeps things clean does it end up being ok? What kind of precautions should I keep in mind. I'm thinking about relaxing this for dogs but absolutely don't want cats. I know I'm being picky I'm sorry...

I just had my virtual on-site interviews on Friday and am expecting to hear back from the team next week. However, I’m wondering if there are any fishes in here that currently work out of the Austin office. If so, could you provide some insight into what you like, love, and hate about your experience working with Amazon in Austin thus far?

Anyone move from accounting advisory to more of a financial analyst role? I’m a senior in FAAS right now and just not liking it at all.. partially cause I’m on multiple part time projects which sucks, but just don’t see myself here long term. I think a shift to more of an internal finance role could be good for me

What’s better…
170,000 salary with 30% bonus (predicated on the company hitting 100% revenue goal) or 195,000 salary with 10% performance/merit bonus (predicated on individual performance).

Is it worth taking a 15-20% paycut as a “gamble” in making a career change? I say gamble because I’m currently really excited about this new industry but you don’t really know what you signed up for until you work in it.

There is potential to earn similarly in the long run. Just need to get up to speed technically in the ne industry.

What do you think about people being "empaths" or having personality traits that make them better at the job? Do people who are already tuned into their own emotions and the emotions of others automatically do better in social work and therapy roles? Or people who naturally have great soft skills? If you could, what skills would you pinpoint as markers of possible success in social work or therapy?

I’m jealous of my husband’s work situation. He is in a non tech role at FAANG and makes the same as me ~$200k but works about 20-40 hours a week and then spends the rest of the time napping, & watching tv. He gets his work done quickly, attends meetings and has really great relationships to where people think he’s a superstar. To be fair, when things hit crunch time, he’s working hard and late hours, but it’s definitely a more balanced life. Are all faang companies work/life balance like this?

Hi! I just received a job offer that includes a sign on bonus to cover the cost of a certification that I’m getting (study program and exam fees). My offer letter states that the appropriate withholding and tax will apply. I’m not sure what that means - does anyone know if this amount should be tax free because of its purpose? It’s not a bonus or anything. I want to make sure I have a general idea before I ask HR about it.
