Sometimes I feel like I should’ve been a nurse because they seem to have great job stability and can work in whatever speciality they want. Do you ever regret not going for your original career choice?

I haven't had regrets like that in any serious way. What will happen, however, is I'll read about some research someone did, or some work in the field, and I'll think about how great it would be to be doing that. I've been on a kick lately of reading about Neanderthals and I've been thinking it would be great to be an archeologist untangling some of those mysteries. So it's almost like I'll admire someone's work and think it would be great to do, which perhaps is not an uncommon attitude.

I’ve admired archaeology too and I honestly love science too much to be a nurse. Just some overthinking going on over here lol

My older sister is a nurse and I don't think it's all it's cracked up to be. She works really long hours and the pay isn't what it was. She also deals with a lot of disrespect on a pretty daily basis from both doctors and patients. I would rather stay in research.

I thought after covid they started paying nurses better though? Most I know are making 100k+. But I agree on the disrespect part. I couldn’t handle that

I ended up in my original career choice after about 5 years outside of it. I started in R&D but originally wanted to do engineering. Now I’m an engineer without an engineering degree 🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh wow you definitely finessed that!

Sometimes I think about this, but it is so hard to predict what will be a beneficial career, both personally and economically, when it is so far in advance of getting the actual experience.

Yea very true!

I have regrets sure. But if it makes you feel better, my wife’s a nurse and it looks miserable. She has to work long swing shifts. She’s always tired and the money is just OK.

Yea my mom was one and also looked miserable

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

One of the team member has applied leaves for continuous 3 days this month. Later she applied for a 15 days leave saying a medical emergency. Both the leaves were rejected from her manager saying connect with HR. though she is on leave without PM leave approval and this is not even prior notice to the team.
Now'what and all would be the consequences she might face. Is there any chance of these things are being escalated? Please advise!

What is one of the most frustrating parts of being a scientist or researcher?

I'll tell you what it is: referencing!

You have to do so much of it, and it's so annoying. You have to cite your sources, but there are so many different formats for citations! And then sometimes you don't even know how to cite something, and how are you supposed to know that unless you ask someone who knows? And even then, they might not be sure whether it should be an in-text citation or a footnote…
