Coach
This is such a good call-out. I’ve found that when job descriptions are a grab bag of buzzwords, it often means the hiring manager hasn’t fully scoped the role—or they’re looking for a unicorn because they’re unsure what’s actually needed. Sometimes it helps to ask questions in the interview that draw out the true pain points they’re hiring for, like, “What would success in this role look like 90 days in?” That can help you position yourself more effectively, even when the posting is vague.
That's a good suggestion, thanks! I will 100% put it in my screen call questions.
We only hire full stacks, but only at a salary band set by HR. Ugh. They are want the best who can do everything but want to pay for junior tester salary. Its a sad time to be in software.
I bet there are people willing to accept the lower salary, but when it comes to delivering they lack the experience?
Look for patterns in the posting and ask about day-to-day responsibilities in the interview. Then show how your core strengths cover the critical needs, and that you can adapt where flexibility matters most.
