Starting as a trainee at large international (but UK-HQed) firm soon. Does anyone have any general advice on seat planning?

People say don’t be tactical with your seat choice but don’t put a seat first if it’s very unpopular. Better to put it last knowing that you may well end up there but you’ll build up ‘goodwill’ for the next rotation with HR for the next rotation (hopefully)

Try to do the seats you’ll enjoy most as your second or third seat. People generally don’t qualify into the 1 or final seat.

smart

To add to TS1, if you want to qualify into litigation, just make sure the litigation seats you want to qualify into doesn't overlap with the Christmas period.

Chances are the seat would be quiet and you won't be learning much.

Leaving my (London, big US) firm; HR has sent me various confirmations they are asking me to sign “before my last day”: I haven’t taken any docs, am aware of my regulatory obligations, don’t have any claims against the firm, have returned everything I need to return etc etc etc. This feels like an obvious try-on: the firm isn’t paying me anything to sign, my reg obligations are unaffected by it etc. How do others manage these? Just walk out on last day?
