I’m a 50 year old attorney at a very reputable law firm in DC. Have dreamed of working in London- taking QLTS to become solicitor- but wondering- will there be a job? Worried about age discrimination!

I had a 45 year old trainee solicitor in my batch because it was her second career! She took a GDL conversion at 40. There were other second career trainees as well.

If you take the QLTS, you aren't coming in as a trainee. Although I suspect they will take a discount on your PQE if you have never done any English law work before.

Also, they are converting the system to SQE soon and doing away with the QLTS so should check what the deadlines are for that.

Thank you so much- this is so helpful and gives me hope! . I passed the 1st part of the MCT and was going to sit the OSCE in Nov 2021. I did not know about the switch to see so THANK YOU!

You could always try and get a gig as foreign qualified. Will be allowed to practice but not sign off etc. And when you’re already in a firm study for the QLTS/SQE?

Thank you!

Although I know you don’t need to pass the patent bar to “technically” do patent litigation, would it be a dead end move to pursue patent litigation without a technical degree / admission to the patent bar? I have a few questions for people in consulting roles (both external/internal).

My partner is in corporate banking, but he wants to switch to a consulting/strategy-based role. I noticed people with those jobs typically have an MBA, and also majority of the job ads in similar roles has MBA as either a requirement or preferred qualification. So:

1) does MBA actually improve someone's chance in getting those roles?
2) are there any good Canadian MBA programs you'd recommend?

I am being asked to move to Richmond, VA for Sr. Mgr. Supply Chain Analytics role in an organization that is dire need of help.

I am currently at 146k TC, they are offering 190k TC.

I originally wanted a director level role to set the strategy, process, and tools.

Instead I am just being asked to develop the tools.

My hypothesis is a clear lack of strategy and no accountability for process compliance will mean any tools developed will fail.

Would you take job in those circumstances?
