So you're up for Partner in a year or so? Why leave now? Partner bump is much more than 30% in mid/long term, if $ is the only factor
Do you want to be a big 4 partner? If not then ok but if so this question makes no sense.
Meh even still... the overall offer would need to be ridiculous. More than 30% for sure and likely some ownership / restricted stock.
MD in Deloitte too and does not have to become MD if you are in Principal or Partner track.
I wouldn’t, it’s all about brand recognition
Would need to know more than just the salary bump. If you’re only 1-2 years away from the next jump, I’d compare whatever the tiny firm is offering to what a partner package looks like.
Yeah if you’re confident a promo is coming in 12-24 months, I’d say I’d need a almost ridiculous offer for me to leave 🤷🏾♂️
Next jump is not always partner, some firms have MD
KPMG has the MD level between Director and Partner that everyone (at least in Advisory) is required to go through before you reach Equity Partner. How do other firms view this level? Also, if you were to leave the firm as an MD would the expectation be that you moved into a SM role or is there a similar Non-Equity Partner level at other Big 4?
No id expect you go somewhere as an ED (executive director).
Are all big 4 adding MD to extend timeline to partner? Seems like a scheme to take pressure off pension obligations...ie shift out payment reqs 2 years for non partner staff
Thanks all - good thoughts. Sounds like the consensus is that brand is a big deal, so it would need to be a seriously good offer to make such a jump.
Few more details, this role would have significant executive responsibility in addition to client-facing work. And I’m at one of those B4 that has MD level before partner so partnership is at LEAST 4 years out, assuming MD happens this year or next (which, if it doesn’t, I’d prob leave anyway)...I’m already at top of band, so not much more comp improvement here without a move up and I already take on a lot of MD responsibilities, so really only question is whether business case can be made and made convincingly.
