Salesforce is a big company so you need to be more specific. The most common roles for consultants are to join professional services as a technical or functional consultant, become a Technical Account Manager, or to become a Solution Engineer.
It is absolutely critical to get a referral before applying to any role. They can refer you for 2-3 roles in a row but only usually one at a time.
What specific role do you have in mind? I suggest you focus more in expanding your network and getting referrals. Really helped me when I was applying for a role.

Make sure that you LinkedIn is on point. Connect with people who work for Salesforce including recruiters.
Don't agony for every job going. ( I've seen 59 application from the same person). Be specific, if you have a contact that can refer you in, use them. SF has SLAs on contacting referrals over other applications. That doesn't guarantee an interview of your background isn't a for for the role, but it gives you a step up.
