Being billable means adding to the bottom line of the company. You are not billable on internal projects. That being said, why don't you just be honest with the partner and tell them you don't really want your career aligning with that type of role and want a different experience
Get on a billable project. Why are you trying to get on an internal one?
Well this internal one would technically be billable. Also, last time I was in the same role I wanted to quit. If I do it again, I might actually quit. Everyone I personally know on that kind of engagement/role hates it.
I wanted to tell him it didn't align with what I'm interested in, but counselor is telling me to let the partners/managers of the two projects sort it out first. Crappy thing is that when he first told me, I wanted the role but then I found out he explained it to be pretty different from what it actually is.
Just say you're not interested, man up it's your career
so let them know
sounds like this time you need to just bite the bullet. buying in, and being professional even when it's known it's not your preferred role can do wonders for your internal reputation
What kind of work is it?
Training development for system implementation...aka create decks that tell people where to click and what to type. For 10 months.
