Not all partners are created equal. If you’re an NEP, you have to try even harder to be the star so you can make it to equity.
I mean I get it. Hate the game and not the players. I guess it is very disheartening to know you're still walking on eggshells when you make it to NEP
As an NEP (prob for life) we have to hustle harder for work from EPs than associates do 😔
My condolences. The more I hear partners say stuff like this the more I'm fine turning into a senior associate or counsel until I get pushed out for in-house
Not everything is a training exercise. If we're alone, show me what you know. If its show time, listen and learn.
Sure. A casual group meeting in the office is not "show time" though imo even if an EP happens to step in. A client call of course. Thinking about things as "training exercises" versus not also seems weird to me. Just be collegial/collaborative and give people room to contribute. But I also get it's up to us to know how to successfully navigate a room full of litigators who love to hear themselves talk and not get butthurt if we get talked over. It's a balance for sure
Counter point to this is-if you’re just going to ask me what I think, why would I come talk to you? I’ve already done that, that’s why I’m asking you now.
Also say that because sometimes people do this just to hide incompetence and/or not have to admit they don’t know the answer.
? I don't understand. I'm saying I want to contribute before the partner does not the other way around
Funny cause being "smart" is not meaningful criteria for making equity unless you're a true specialist. It's business generation.

The top firms are still looking for “smart” because it is necessary for them to maintain institutional business, but comp progression is limited by business generation
