The firm retreat is my literal nightmare. I am being forced to spend a weekend at a luxury resort doing team-building ropes courses with people I already spend 60 hours a week with. I just want to be at home with my dog, but attendance is highly encouraged (read: mandatory if you want a bonus). How do you survive 48 hours of forced socialization without losing your mind or saying something you’ll regret after three free margaritas?

Anyone else bummed to see so many clients getting outbid? So many awesome people who deserve the house of their dreams that just can't get anywhere with today's market. It's rough.

Do you have to tell your employer if doing a couple of hours a week of consulting on the side? ( Idon’t work in consulting anymore but wondering what people’s experiences are). Would they find out, eg if my tax code changed?

Any advice on how to deal with a partner/boss who is shifting all responsibility to me with zero guidance, no mentoring, and an unwillingness to discuss the issues? (Small firm, only associate under this partner and have been working at the firm for 2 years). There are an increasing number of passive aggressive comments from the partner who expects to be completely hands off once the case lands on my desk. I am traveling out of town for callback interviews. One firm wants me to commit a full day of interviews. Would it be reasonable to ask for a half day so I can fit 2 callbacks in the same day?
