The gender discrimination at my company is insane. I am in a male dominated industry: There are 40 staff employed at my local branch, and I am one of 5 females. Four of us are secretaries making a lower salary than any of the male staff. One of the females was a manager when I started, but they have taken away her title. I tried saying something about it on a company survey and have been bullied and harassed for it because somehow my managers were told what I said?! Any input much appreciated.

So are there women doing the same role and getting paid less. Secretaries make notoriously low pay unless an executive assistant and you don’t know what happened with with manager. The only area that can cause recourse is if you are being harassed for telling the truth on a survey. If there are action occurring to YOU document what was said, when and by whom. Focus on how the misogyny affects you. Is there an HR department? Find out what your business harassment policy is. I had to leave somewhere because I was being harassed and threatened but the policy said I had to directly ask the person to stop before they would do anything so I quit because my boss said he would ruin my life if I left. So I made up some story that he couldn’t refuse to leave .

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. I’m not sure if he’s changing the meaning or isn’t communicating what he’s envisioning or what but it’s embarrassing to be called out like that, and to have people think you’re the dumb 23 year old.

There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.

I attended a Kindergarten Readiness meeting and a preschool director who has been open for most of the pandemic said that her staff wears smocks or aprons to protect themselves. We are going back full time in less than a month. I am not sure if I should buy an apron. Does anyone know any research about this?

Been asked to present my current client’s plan and PCA in second interview for a role. Am I being over cautious by not feeling comfortable with this?

I’ve been asked by a client to coach their team on how to structure and write scripts for their corporate event content (e.g. panel discussions). I’ve happily had a crack at helping them but it’s a bit out of my wheelhouse - is this ask something that would ordinarily be given to an agency copywriter? Or would it usually be something a content or speech writer would do?
Either way, I’m happy to add the additional skill to my CV 😅

Currently our marketing team is of one (me) and we outsource quite a bit of other tasks as we continue to grow. With that said, one of the tasks I am currently involved with is creating weekly emails from scratch and I am pretty darn good at them. Yet so many people (several in different teams) have requested to review my work before it’s sent. It’s unnecessary and makes the job less efficient. How can I politely and professionally decline their request?

Building out a new function at my company, top 15 bank in the US, and scheduled a 90 minute meeting last week for today. Invite included an agenda and a teams link to the document we would be reviewing. Also asked for attendees to review ahead. 20 minutes in, my co-worker exclaims while I’m mi-sentence we should meet Thurs. after having a chance to review content… WHAT?! What should I have done in that situation?

How to deal with people flirting with you at work.
I’m married, and one of my coworkers flirts with me. Nothing super overt, but definitely not professional. We’re good friends and work together constantly because we’re on the same client, so I don’t want to make it awkward. Do I just do nothing and let it go? It is mostly just odd I’m not super offended, but I’m also clearly uninterested!

Are you responsible for giving performance feedback? Avoid giving personality based feedback. Examples include telling an Asian person they are too quiet/shy or telling a Black person they are agressive/abrasive. DO NOT DO THIS. It clearly represents bias in Performance Management. Performance feedback should be tied to business outcomes with clear examples of what the person does well + how they can improve.
