The new hire experience in this field has been abysmal.

1.) Every project seems to be staffed by a skeleton crew. No one has time to mentor your or teach you anything. So then you work on stuff, it sits in the manager Que till last minute and then you get chastised for missing stuff before the deadline.

2.) your dropped in after walkthroughs are completed, have do document and follow up on like 17 controls and then are coached for not understanding them.

I think we need more staff always but no one is willing to acknowledge that - easier to leave people struggling as a way to build 'experience' than actually solve the problem at the root of it

Sounds like a you problem, at least partially. Are you asking for support? I always ask my teams if they understand and want me to walk through stuff with them. If they say no, I let them run with it - and just check in daily. There is no harm in advocating for yourself - in fact, it is looked upon as you're trusting of your team. Good luck

I'm at big four now and was previously at a midsized firm. At the midsized firm as a staff, I was present for all the walkthroughs and coached after (not sure if this is still the case for staff since COVID/remote work). At the big four the poor staff are never invited to the walkthrough and somehow expected to document it, and then they wonder why people leave.

My team did not do this when I was at PwC. We coached prior to the meeting and after. Seniors and above would run the meeting. Staff would take notes.

And your proposed solutions?

Everyone is busy and has a million things to do

Tech risk is external audit at certain companies. Maybe not at KPMG but Others yes.

Don't worry great learning opportunity

Fixing the root cause requires more people/resources. However, as some have said above -- it's possible to change the structure of training/feedback. What do you feel like the most valuable changes would be?

Hi there. I'd say not a smooth start but I think that's a great opportunity to learn and grow. Have you tried talking to your manager about this?

Hmm. Have you tried talking to your manager about your concern? I feel like you will be at a disadvantage if the performance review comes.

I’m seriously contemplating taking a software development boot camp. For those who hire new software developers, does it make you stand out if you get your certificate from a university instead of a coding academy (like coding dojo or something)? I noticed the universities are a bit more expensive but is it worth the price to have a university on your resume or does it not really matter?

Does really Collaboration work or it's just a myth. Always hearing from Offshore manager is that take more ownership like from offshore we should be working 80% and only 20% will leave for onshore because of time difference..

Is it really a collaboration or simply a cold War between offshore and onshore ownership..
