I've always believed that how you carry yourself in the workplace can make you more likely to get caught up in a layoff. But mostly I think it comes down to numbers. People who have been around are being paid more. And, if the work is seen as fungible, a new person being paid less can do it. And that's that.
Nah it’s clear the higher earners are being let go everywhere. That and bringing in h1bs the rich are just looking to hoard more wealth
What I see is long term employees chopped because they get more vacation. Salary doesn’t seem to matter as much. The first time they went after me, I made less than 100k but I had max vacation.
Hi everyone from my humble opinion it’s was done for financial reasons. Which sometimes will hurt the company in a long run. I believe on preserving those with experience and mix them with the new blood. Why I say so most companies that do what yours did end up using contractors companies. And if you dig into it you find that the same person who advocated for the layoffs is getting kickbacks from the contractors or have share in that company. I say so by experience.

That's really messed up dude. Way to kick downwards. I'm sure your wife just adores you.
Longevity at a company means they were likely highly paid and often in leadership positions.
If you eliminate the highest paid employees, you need to cut fewer heads, and while you lose coordination between departments, the rank and file who get the job done still know what to do.
It also opens up opportunities for those who remain to be advanced and feel job growth.
There may be correlation without causation in your assessment. This is SOP for business during economic downturns or if there is a change in direction like M&A or directional changes in the market.
That sounds like the people who were laid off were ones who made more money, because either the company is losing money, or wants to appease investors / the board.
This happened to me, from a profitable company, because the new corporate raider CEO wanted to goose the stock price before IPO.
Rising Star
It's pleasant to think you were spared because of your superior work ethic. The reality is you are probably under paid for the work you do or experience you have. Once your pay rises to a level to match your experience you will find the accountants and consultants will come for you next. It will be sold as something nice but really the cycle is just replace expensive workers with cheaper workers who don't know better.
