💯. I would go as far and say that luck is essential
Well we were all born into the world, at a time we didn’t choose, in a place we didn’t choose, to parents we didn’t choose.
That seems pretty important to acknowledge here.
Everyone who achieves massive success works hard and has good luck. Neither is sufficient, both are necessary.

It’s 99% luck. Feel like hard work is just minimum requirement.
Exactly this!

Luck played a huge part for me.
The right people either retired is left the firm. I think I might have gotten it eventually, but he timing worked well for me and the subsequent opportunities emerged for similar reasons.
Luck is the product of putting yourself in a situation to be lucky
You make your own luck by being prepared. Dumb luck only happens to forest gump
I agree. Luck is what got me into my current role. From Laid off SC to Director in 3 years in industry. On track to make VP at 37 if my exec support stays at this firm.
Luck is what happens when you also work really hard.
Not always, but rarely do I see luck with someone not working hard.
If luck played a part for everyone, then it didn’t play a part for anyone.
If you consider luck being that no one in my family got a debilitating illness (which would have forced me to change careers) and that I married a spouse that was understanding, then yes, luck had something to do with it. For that matter, each day that I commute and don't get killed on the way to my client is luck (or God looking after you); classify it however you want. When it comes to making and staying partner, I actually had some bad luck that lengthened the overall journey. Skill and persistence had a lot to do with my making partner, but so did some level of luck.
