Dropped my iPhone 3 days after getting it (hadn’t had a chance to buy a case yet) and shattered the screen. CSR sent me a check for a new iPhone.
Wait! That’s 🔥
Got t boned in a rental car, was covered from CSR for it (sometimes even when not at fault in a rental car, you’d had to pay the deductible and get reimbursed).
It was seamless, they handled it entirely for me, picked up a new rental the next week (flew home early due to injuries), had one or two phone calls to follow up, and that was that.
Delay insurance really helped in Dallas over the holidays. I had two flights canceled and had to pay for Ubers and hotels out of pocket cause American was garbage. They reimbursed in about 15 days
Nice!
I would take the bonus points then run. I had really bad experiences with them flagging me on every trip even after a travel notice as submitted but then they missed a recurring fraud charge that I had to investigate myself. I asked what I was paying for if I'm expected to call the vendors myself to resolve issues. The rep said that I was paying for the use of the card. Wtf.
Good to know
Yes I used trip delay when flight was cancelled in Cusco Peru and had to stay an extra day. Paid for hotel food transit etc
Primary car insurance is probably the single best “just in case” benefit but you can also get that with the CSP. Same with trip delay (but only for >12 hr delays).
I always recommend CSP for the first year since the fee is waived in year 1 (but the bonus is the same) then upgrading in a year. I’m happy to provide a referral to CSP if you’d like one
Good tip! Let me continue researching
Are these really going to make or break it for you? The fee net of travel credit is $150. It is very straightforward to redeem points at 1.5cpp. Which means you only have to spend $3,333 on travel and dining to break even. Oh, and you 50k points/$750 just for signing up.
Haven’t used any of these perks yet (knock on wood), but I’m very happy with my CSR (3/4 years in). Initial bonus was great and mostly funded an awesome trip to Paris and Bordeaux. Earning power is well aligned with our DINK lifestyle where most discretionary spend goes to travel / meals / entertainment. Transfer redemptions aren’t extremely valuable, but my wife and I are both status chasers / heavy business travelers so we value being able to use the points through chase to book high value redemptions for vacations that still count towards our status qualifications. Will probably end up adding a platinum Amex for DL lounge access this year, but still heartily recommend CSR
Yip. Used delay insurance once. Several hundred bucks reimbursed.
Also - Primary Car Insurance is fantastic.
I’ve had bad luck with my claims. Not one was paid. Lots of hoops to jump through. Like when Hurricane Irma wrecked my Key West trip. Big ol’ $0
They denied for insufficient documentation. AA wouldn’t provide a letter, the hotel wouldn’t provide documentation that it’s not safe to travel into a hurricane. The paperwork isn’t difficult, but getting it from the sources is like the 7th circle of run-around hell
Tip : ask airlines for a “military excuse note” if the flight is delayed
I had a car rental accident in a foreign country. No injuries, no other vehicles involved, but $16k damages. Took about 3 months, but Chase covered the damages
