This is by far the best time to travel with a kid. They poop, eat, and sleep. That’s it. No screaming toddlers, no tantrums, and no whining. We took ours everywhere at that age - the caribbean, transcontinental, Europe. In hindsight I wish we had traveled even more.
Just remember to feed your little one during takeoff (start just as you roll down the runway) and landing as their ears are still sensitive to the pressure change.
For when they are older:
- The Pockit stroller was amazing for us. Folds to the size of a small tote bag so you can take it on the plane.
- We bought an extra ticket and brought our car seat on long haul flights until our little ones were 4, it helped them sleep. We figured out how to attach the car seat arm straps around our rolling carry on so we didn’t have to carry it by hand.
- Don’t let other parents shame you on screen time, an iPad is a life saver
- Snacks, snacks and more snacks. A well fed kid is a happy kid.
Do it. Why not? Young babies are just hungry accessories that have occasional difficulty sleeping. We went to Ireland with our 6 month old. Our friends just toured Italy with their 3 month old. You’ll realize how easy travel with a baby is once you have a toddler.
We took a 4 month old across the country. You need to pack a monumental amount of shit, but the kid was really a non-issue.
As long as you are going to a hygienic area don’t see an issue. Take advantage of the free tickets while you can.
Took our first flight at 4mo. Lots of self-inflicted stress leading up to it, was pretty easy peasy! Have flown a lot with her now through the age of 4 and little brother has joined now!
Do it, took two big trips with my son under 5 months. Loved it
