Combine the ask. If you want $5K for each, ask for $10K to cover relocation signing bonus.

Call the recruiter with something like this: “Hi, I’m going to have to move for this position, and would therefore request $x for a relo bonus.” For the sign on, it really depends on the industry. In consulting, for entry levels, I think $5-10k is pretty standard sign on for tech consulting / implementation roles. I think it’s higher for strategy roles. Industry doesn’t typically offer sign on bonuses from what I’ve seen, outside of big tech and high level roles

Not in this market. We have rescinded offers on my team for folks coming back to negotiate.
Uh honestly I think that says more about your team’s talent management experience than anything else. Negotiating an offer VERY common place and expected by all. Sounds a bit toxic, and I work for Uncle D as well…
Like I get how someone asking for 50% more might be a showstopper, but rescinding offers because someone requests a negotiation is straight up unprofessional. I’d pass hard if that happened to me, even in this market.
You will likely be more successful requesting a one time bonus (like a relocation one) instead of asking for higher base pay. Former doesn’t compound into higher costs with % increase in future years, so it’s easier to swallow.
Bring a couple of data points too to build your case. How much is your lease break fee? Moving cost? Airplane ticket cost? When I got my relocation cash, I laid it out at a high level (“X will cost $3k, Y costs $2k, blah blah, so a bonus of $10K would help me cover 75% of the costs”) and i feel like it made the conversation go much more smoothly. I feel like having some of these data points helped the employer realize I wasn’t trying to grab more money, there were legit costs I needed help with… YMMV, but it worked for me!
