New to Fishbowl?

1) who cares
2) that’s not how you spell “apropos”
3) that’s also not how you use the word "apropos”
Who cares?
If I used fishbowl as an indicator, I'd conclude that all consultants dress exactly the same.
I’d wear it, but also be situationally aware. If you’re recommending that big chunks of people be laid off or in a warehouse, probably not the best timing versus just regular use. But in general, most won’t notice it unless you show it off
Keep your dick out though...that’s power move 💰
Do it if you love it!!
Could be a gift, your family could be loaded, you could’ve taken a pay cut to come to consulting (??), or you could choose to spend your money on a Rolex et cetera. Myriad of reasons why a person in an analyst role might wear a Rolex.
That said, yes, what we wear (or don’t wear) presents some color about us to our clients on a conscious and subconscious level. Just be mindful of the message, but don’t obsess over it either
I wear one!! I’m very comfortable talking about it too. There’s no reason anyone should make me feel bad about how I choose to dress myself
Depends on the client. Banking clients won't care. Upstream oil and gas clients (field operators) won't trust you. Adapting to the environment is key.
Leave the Rolex at home. Even if you are a great person/consultant, there will be some portion of the client organization perceiving you negatively. And why would you want to give anyone a reason to not like you or your firm?
As a previous client, I always felt things like that were too much (sort of like cuff links and monogrammed cuffs). Just an outside in view
What about panerai? Not a lot of ppl know about it and if you are wearing the new slim model, it is not that conspicuous either
Consulting is performance art. Like a stage play. Know your lines, deliver them believably, hit your marks, wear the right clothes for your role, be able to do your own stunts.
If your client doesn’t believe your performance because of your wardrobe choices, that is the only limit. You are playing a role for them
Always rock the rolex, its a classy watch; who cares what level you are. I get tons of compliments on mine.
If it’s a gold Rolex even better
Totally appropriate
It is just as watch - tells time...
Solution Principal 1 - why is it that when I read FB posts, the consulting profession seems to be full of the most sophisticated, artsy, and smartest people in the world. But when I interact with consultants in real life, they are no different than the average population????
