This isn’t anything original but I work in a small Southeast Asian country and would love to work in the states one day. Not necessarily anytime soon. Maybe in a couple of years but it seems near impossible to do the kind of work that would be worth any US agency’s time in this market. There are a bunch of really talented people here but for some reason the work just doesn’t reflect it. For those who made the jump across from a shit small market. How did you do it and do you have any advice?

In a country like mine, my side project is surviving, not getting mugged and not falling into recession on the daily 😂 gives me a real edge but probably not the kind that’s useful for hiring a creative.

I made the jump. From a small country in SEA to NYC.

My strategy was: do something so unique someone local in USA can't do it. They need a reason to bring you in... it's nothing against you, it is literally legally required.

I could be judging the book by its cover - but off the bat, I don't think there can be anything truly unique with copywriting.... unless you have a Cannes?

I'm in data analytics and engineering... but even that is quite easily replicated these days.

You need to be so damn good they want to call you.

Marry an American 😂😂😂

No but my fiancé happens to be American.
I’m from South East Asian country too, I studied in the states worked there for a bit too but my H1b didn’t get approved. Then worked in the middle-east, made a big jump to the EU, next goal is the states, it’s a lot easier to get a gig there once i get married. I don’t think my book is WOW but I do know how to sell myself and I know I can produce WOW work if given the chance.

I was hired within the last year as a site supervisor. I did well my first few projects with the company. They asked if I’d be interested in transitioning into a construction manager role. I agreed. Now I still am the site supervisor on projects but I’m also doing all the construction manger duties on the project as well. Essentially 2 jobs for one salary. We have yearly reviews in December but no talks of raise have been discussed. Any help on approaching this to my boss?

How do you best leverage a job offer when you don’t want to leave? In the running for a VP job (higher level than now) that pays $70k higher than what I currently make. I want to ask for more money, but don’t want them to see me as a flight risk or that I am not loyal anymore. Or my bigger fear is they’ll say they cannot offer me any more and then I feel like I have egg on my face. Any tips for delicately balancing this?

I'm in the final round of interviews for two internal positions - both vertical. One has FTE's (my first such experience) and the other a much broader scope vs my current role

I had interviewed externally for a role on par w the internal roles, at a smaller and less established company. They confirmed +20% was in their range

How do I push back on my company if they offer less than that, if I do want one of those roles? Without a pay scale, what is the best way to approach?
