Managers, have you ever given your raise to a member of your team? Is that possible?

Two of my employees were severely underpaid for the amount of work. We absorbed another team’s work without additional compensation or headcount. I was told I’d receive an bump and I asked if we could bring up the two’s salary instead. It was “in consideration” and alas, no one got a bump due to freezes.

like

Thanks! This was March and would be “unfrozen” January 1. I left the following July!

I tried to this year. I was told I was getting a $10k raise, and I told HR and my manager that while I appreciated it and didn’t want to appear ungrateful, that $$ would be put to better use as a raise for my direct report. Turns out he was getting a raise too, 75% of what I was getting. I still wanted to give him mine too since he is still severely underpaid, but that’s not how things work. 🤷🏼‍♀️

No. This to me wouldn't show what I'd want to see, which is instead successfully making the case for that raise such that I can kick it up and make it happen.

Started working for an agency during the pandemic and found out that they cut associate salaries for those who started during the pandemic. I’m doing the same amount of work and getting paid less just because I started during the pandemic. Seeing as the agency has won more business and things are pretty much back to normal, would it look bad for me to ask for a raise?

I’ve been through 5+ weeks of interviews with a company that will IPO next year and they did a bait and switch on me with the offer: it was advertised as “Head of” and then during the offer-walk-through-meeting today they said “oh btw we changed the title to ‘Senior Manager’ for this role”.
