I made the switch a while back, and while the work-life balance is generally better than in public accounting, it really depends on the company and time of year. Month-end and year-end do get hectic, but it's more predictable. You just have to be more prepared for the busier periods, but I find that the predictability of it helps with that a lot
seconding that. really really depends on the company you’re going to and how large of an operation they are (do they have international operations, many subsidiaries, etc.). I recently moved to a very large public company from public accounting, and the hours are way better but I’m responsible for a lot and there’s actually less predictability than in audit because any given day I’m taking over or overhauling a process or project from some other team like tax, FP&A, consolidations, etc. with little warning. you don’t really have as many periods of downtime as in PA either. like I said, overall better hours but you do have to be around for every single month end, quarter end and obviously year end.
I agree with everyone above. It definitely depends on the company but in general the work life balance is better. Obviously the more you move up the career path the busier you get but I still feel like there is good work life balance overall.
