Companion pass and earning potential is why.
Why?
^^
I value other loyalty programs way more. Probably depends on the alternative options you have...
What if you want to use the miles/points to fly international?
SWA Business Select is great - super flexible fares and you get a ton of points. I've had Companion Pass for the past 1.5 years and saved a ton. If most of your travel is domestic and SWA has routes that fit your needs, I highly recommend it!
You can transfer them to other airlines through southwests portal. You won't get status when you transfer but you can still use them miles elsewhere
Exactly. And status on the majors isn't worth anything anymore.
Ah okay cool. Then I guess it's no biggie + companion pass
I have platinum on AA and feel like it's not worth anything. I do a lot of domestic personal travel visiting friends and family and I like their flexible cancellation policy.
I'd transfer points to SW, not actually fly for work - I have companion pass and love using it to pivot to other airports for cheaper international flights, but for work I fly United
Consistently get upgraded on my route and it's just less of a hassle
I love southwest. It's also super easy to book flights for other people on points and companion pass is amazing.
I fly united when I can't get direct on southwest. I always board first and get an isle close to the front. It's easy. Points make it all worth it. United points are horrible even with the highest multiplier.
@OP I fly swa exclusively for business because I am based out of ATX. There are some very big pluses if you do a lot of domestic travel.
- companion pass
- good or reward redemption
- no cancellation fees (makes changes to business and personal travel much less painful)
- all the employees are super nice
Trouble on our end is that they're not a "preferred" provider, so the flight isn't quoted accurately and can be wildly expensive, but you don't know the actual price until it's ticketed. One scare on DAL-LAX where I almost paid $1000 (fortunately it was refundable so I just cancelled and booked UA) and I haven't even tried WN since.
DAL to LAX 1,000 is right. I've paid that plenty before.
