Lot of turnover in that group, which is telling. My understanding is that it’s mostly a lot of reporting.
That makes sense! The two folks I knew there left externally (to equally good opps). But that’s just an anecdote. Sounds like it’s easy to move around internally so that’s a nice plus.

There’s one large corporate strategy team that sits under Kurt. Then there’s like 2-3 sub teams in that group with different focuses. Some are more development focused and others are more strategy.
After that, there’s a bunch of smaller strategy teams across the company which is what I’m in. Honestly depends what altitude you want to operate at in the company. I’m still doing corporate strategy just with a more narrow focus. If you split microsoft up, we could be like 20 F500 companies from a revenue perspective.
WLB is probably par if not better than other big tech. Comp is decent, depends how much stock you get. I don’t think our comp is as good as Google or Facebook though (we are also in a cheaper location), however most of the ex consultants here wouldn’t want to work at those companies either cause they’re Seattle based or because of moral reasons. The work at Microsoft has largely been very interesting for me, much cooler than what I was doing in consulting since it’s primarily growth

what was the process like?
There's like ten corporate strategy groups at Microsoft so make sure you understand which one you're applying for and speak to insiders to understand the degree of influence it has.
There is only one Corp strategy function at MSFT. Another one is focused on cloud and AI. Both do really interesting work - but the work of Corp strategy be very similar to consulting.
