I was recently opposite of them on a deal and the associates were emailing me through Friday night when there wasn’t anything due soon. I also remember getting Saturday 2am emails (again, for stuff that could have waited for Monday or even Tuesday). They were nice but I felt bad for them.

Working in Sidley NY’s M&A/PE group is basically the same as being at STB or Kirkland but the deals often aren’t as good. It seemed especially unpleasant for juniors who were expected to bill 70/week for three years before anyone treated them with respect. Real experience sure but bad morale.
Also not Sidley. Work across from the NY office occasionally then in a specialized finance practice.
Are they truly any sweater than CSM, DPW, Latham, STB, K&E, Weil, Cahill, Ropes, S&C, Fried Frank, Clearly, or any number or other high end firms. Come on guys. It’s big law.
Yup. I’ve gotten above market bonuses every year I’ve been at Sidley. This year I got an extra $25k
Sidley NY is a sweatshop

Don’t go to Sidley NY.
Everyone’s been jumping ship. Don’t go.
Don’t do it unless you’re ready to give up any semblance of a life besides work
Sidley here - Just wondering how many people here are actual current or former Sidley associates. My experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Also the point on 10 years to non-equity partner is just flat out wrong.
Former Sidley CA office - left bc of toxic work environment. Office and junior associate workload was very mismanaged

Former Sidley here, all of the above sounds about right except for the Sidley person’s clarification about partnership track and I have not heard of any stealth layoffs but they delayed their class of 2020 with very little advance notice.
Current junior at Sidley. I'd say it's pretty sweaty (I billed 2450), but I also got a bonus that was nearly 2x market.
