Strongly prefer the sub. I'm not a fan of thick and chunky watches and the extra 2mm in thickness for the sea dweller makes a difference IMO.
Are you a big dude? I have a buddy who is planning to sell his sub to get a sea dweller, but he's 6'8'' and the sub looks small on him. His explorer II looks good on him though, that extra case size makes a difference.
My point is you should really try to try them on if possible.

Yeah sorry, my post was a bit confusing there where sometimes I am talking about case width and sometimes case thickness.
15mm is a thick watch. Cool that you like the style, but I’d still advocate trying it on first if at all possible.
I’d rather the 16600 since it’s a bit more unique. Also neat to have a Rolex with a date and no cyclops.
This is spot on
Does it even matter anymore? No one will ever see it. We’re stuck here forever 🤪

Crazy how timing works, but I actually had a 16610 sub for a hot minute. Got it for a good price a couple years ago, and then traded it for a loss (plus cash) towards the Dark Rhodium dialed 116622 Yachtmaster.
The thing to realize with older subs, is that the hands and dial and case and bracelet and all the little bits could have been changed or swapped or repaired or whatnot. My sub was a 1991 (X serial) and the hands glowed but the dial didn’t, which pissed me off and is why I traded it. Vintage watches really are a mine field...
I liked the sub more because it fit my wrist better. It's probably impossible, but you should try then both on and see which one you like more.

Which Sub? No date or Date, and from which year (roughly)?
The Sea Dweller is cool because it’s slightly different, but it’s a taller case due to the helium escape valve you’ll never need.
The Sub is a more practical choice, but there are so many slight variations of materials and designs over the years I’d need more detail to provide a definitive recommendation.

Not all 16610’s are created equal, btw.
- Tritium vs Luminova vs Super Luminova
- Hollow vs Solid End Links (SEL)
- Lug holes vs no lug holes
A Super luminova sub (which I believe would by default come with SEL) would probably beat out a late-model Sea-Dweller for me, but I’d want to try them on side by side to really see the case size differential and weight difference.
The sub is a classic; an icon, but there are literally millions of them. The sea dweller is almost different just to be different, which is cool too. It totally embodies the Rolex method of over-engineering the sh*t out of stuff. You really can’t go wrong; you either get an icon or you get respect for being slightly different. If you’re split down the middle, get the one in the best condition, from the most reputable dealer, that comes with the most complete set of box/papers/warranty card/etc.
Buy the one you can find. Rolex closing factories won’t make it more available
