Hello, Fishbowl Community!
I am a Talent Sourcer/Recruiter on LinkedIn. If you are looking to expand your network (which is an absolutely fantastic idea), then I would love to connect with you!
It is important to remember that the larger your network the greater your visibility is. This is especially critical for Job Seekers, both active and passive. Not looking for a new role now? You might be soon!

All companies have that aspect where it can seem like favoritism determines who gets promoted. But, in fairness, having the proper attitude can matter a lot, and people who are easy to work with will naturally tend to advance. If you think of it that way, the goodwill you might develop within your company is just missing if you try to move somewhere else. So in that sense it might be easier to move up where you are.
That's a very revenant point you made! However how do you balance being easy to work with versus people giving you stuff to do because they are too lazy to do so? Basically people who take the advantage
I have done a mix of both and I really don't think one is easier than the other. I do think it's easier to bump up your salary if you move companies, though. In general, I like to stay with a company for 5ish years, and then move on so I can keep up with a competitive salary
I couldn't not agree more of you want a significant pay raise then changing companies is beneficial especially since now it is against the law to ask someone what they were getting paid previously
I am dealing with a similar situation. I have applied to over 20 internal roles within my company and haven’t landed anything. My supervisor who been with the company for 20 years did inform that it’s about who you know. One girl in my department had no leadership experience what so ever, no degree. Nothing. And she landed a supervisor role in another department because she knew the manager. And yet I’ve been applying for lead ship roles and I have the experience and a B.S. degree.
Hopefully the job market is better starting in January because I am definitely moving on from the company. I enjoy working for the company however right now I am chasing the promotion for more money
