Hi everyone, I have 2 years of experience in a service based industry as a Java developer, and I am eager to work hard and switch to a reputed product based organisation, but I am not getting proper time to study and practice data structures and algorithms, as I have so much to learn and understand things which are related to my project. Any suggestions would be appreciated and I'll try to inculcate it. Thanks in advance! Amazon Oracle Samsung Microsoft Cisco Salesforce Arcesium Uber

Depends on the level. Promotions at G have become notoriously hard, so don’t expect to get promoted easily within the so called “general” timelines. If it’s an area which G is heavily investing in to move up in, then would be worth the move IMHO.
Lack of internal mobility/growth, lack of location transfer ability (big issue), boring work (Ads), politics, and I have been reorged into a role that is a pretty bad fit. I’ve been here for awhile (pre pandemic) and it’s simply time to move on.
That said- people have been fantastic, I have made some great friends, and I can’t complain about WLB, perks, or financials.
MCK1 — reading this thread it might sound like you’re just chasing the allure of wanting to work at a FAANG, despite many cons vs your current situation.
Suggest taking a hard look at what you’re seeking, and the answer will become clear. Ask yourself “what am I debating/optimizing for”? Validation, comp, scope, remote flexibility, wlb.
Remove the emotions and make this as binary and objective as possible. Don’t assume future career growth — it’s simply out of your hand at a company like google (politics, constant org changes, massive company, etc)
Source — I did the same and strongly believe it set me back in my career tremendously.
Career growth here is terrible.
Great brand from the outside. Comp raises are literally 3% and promos are borderline non-existent. You will be able to grow faster elsewhere. In my opinion, and I learned this the hard way myself, don’t come here until you’re taking a L6+ role. Anything else just isn’t worth it (assuming you’re ambitious)

Congrats OP! I was in the same boat and well you can see what decision I made
If you're already at a household name company like Uber/Airbnb, you're a top performer, and you enjoy your current wlb and culture, then I'd be careful about moving over. If slack or stripe, the brand gap is bigger. What do you want the better brand for? Jumping again in a couple years to a higher role in another non-faang?
A 10% bump might not be worth the risk and hassle. I'd negotiate for more equity. Ask for double and see what they say.
Yep just started managing a team
How long have you been with the tech company and what kind of role do you have?
Thanks, I’ll take a referral now ☺️
I wouldn’t leave Airbnb or stripe, would leave slack and definitely leave Uber
Yeah unfortunately I have relatively lower YOE, so hard to negotiate for a higher level/comp
