Anyone around who I can vent to?
What should my requested salary be for a Senior Intelligence Analyst position with CrowdStrike ? I have a bachelors degree and 5 years of experience as an intelligence analyst. Current salary is 56k in NC, but when I was in DC I was making 86k (big locality change)… which makes me confused on what I should expect for a remote job.

Honestly most of data science is building pipelines and data cleansing. Unless you're working for DeepMind or OpenAI or some other purely AI focused firm, you're going to be doing DE work for a good portion of your time.
Seems to be the life of a DE from my experience
I would look into ML Engineering. I had a similar frustration ad a DE and am now an MLE and it’s a world of difference.
I’ve asked to do more than move data around and get confused looks.
This is all of data engineering and much of “data science” tbh
Same
Just curious, are your clients or managers getting you to write tests for the pipelines that you are building?
This sounds familiar. Sorry to hear. In times of less demand at a consultancy it might be ok to temporarily do a bit more engineering “only” work. If it doesn’t change after a few weeks/months, you should find a new place. Make that clear in the interview. I manage a data team and our real data science assignments are scarce. If an applicant tells me they want to do data science in the interview I’ll be very honest and transparent about what most of the projects are about.
Same here
